The government has decided to allocate 5 billion rubles for the creation of domestic veterinary drugs by 2030, Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Patrushev announced at the annual board meeting of Rosselkhoznadzor

He called on the service to “pay particular attention to compliance with legal requirements by foreign suppliers.”

The Deputy Prime Minister explained that starting in 2023, a GMP certificate is mandatory for the introduction of veterinary drugs into circulation. Conscientious market participants receive such certificates on time and interact with Russian buyers. However, there are also attempts to use "gray" schemes. In this regard, Rosselkhoznadzor must carefully monitor how the country complies with the legislation.

"But the most important thing for us is, of course, strengthening our own positions in this area. Within the framework of the new national project "Technological Support for Food Security" there is a separate direction for the creation of domestic veterinary drugs. The government plans to allocate about 5 billion rubles to the corresponding federal project by 2030," Patrushev added.

The Deputy Prime Minister added that Rosselkhoznadzor has created a strong scientific base. In particular, the Federal Center for Animal Health Protection has been developing vaccines for several years. In 2024 alone, 14 new drugs for the prevention of diseases in cattle, poultry and pets appeared on its platform. According to him, the federal service should continue to deal with issues of simplifying the registration procedures for new Russian drugs for animals. "But, of course, all this should not be done at the expense of quality," Patrushev emphasized.

He noted that constant attention should also be paid to ensuring epizootic well-being, which is a key risk for livestock farming. The last three years, according to him, have been quite difficult. Bird flu, in particular, has caused significant damage, and outbreaks of other highly pathogenic diseases have been recorded. Nevertheless, the Deputy Prime Minister assessed the epizootic situation in the country as stable.

Earlier, RNC Pharma reported that the volume of the retail market for veterinary drugs in Russia reached 41.7 billion rubles in 2024, which is 15.8% higher than last year. Over the year, 249.3 million packages of tablets, vials, ampoules and other drugs for animals were sold. The sales leader was the American Zoetis, slightly ahead of the Russian Ecoprom.
