This was reported by the rector of the Russian Medical Academy of Continuous Professional Education of the Ministry of Health of Russia, clinical pharmacologist, academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences Dmitry Sychev.
"Over 4 years, more than 3,500 drugs have been registered in the Russian Federation, of which about 80% are domestically produced. And today's regulations in no way limit the entry into the market and circulation of foreign drugs, including innovative ones, so the release of new Russian drugs expands the range," Sychev said.
At the same time, he noted that critically important drugs need to be produced domestically to minimize the risks of supply disruptions. Localization of drug production, he said, will help reduce prices by reducing logistics costs and currency risks. Patients and the Russian healthcare system should have uninterrupted access to high-quality, safe, and reasonably priced drugs regardless of the geopolitical situation.
Sychev emphasized that import substitution in pharmaceuticals does not mean ousting foreign drugs from the Russian market. This is a strategy for the formation of sustainable production of popular drugs. "We are talking about key drugs, especially from the list of vital and essential drugs, being produced within the country, ensuring drug safety," he added.
