First National Center for mRNA Technologies launched in Russia to drive innovative drug development.

Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin signed an order to create a scientific and technological center for the development of matrix ribonucleic acid (mRNA) technologies
The center will develop innovative drugs, including drugs for the treatment of oncological diseases, the government press service reported.
The center will operate as a consortium of 17 research organizations, including the N. N. Blokhin National Medical Research Center of Oncology and the I. M. Sechenov Moscow State Medical University. The lead organization will be the N. F. Gamaleya National Research Center of Epidemiology and Microbiology.
According to the Cabinet of Ministers, the center will focus on the comprehensive development of mRNA technologies to create innovative drugs for the treatment and prevention of various diseases.
“The center will ensure the comprehensive development of the direction of development and production of innovative drugs based on mRNA technologies for the treatment and prevention of various diseases, including severe ones,” the Cabinet of Ministers noted.
It was also reported that approximately 600 million rubles had previously been allocated from the government’s reserve fund for the purchase of equipment for the production of such drugs.
